How to Activate Your Target Credit Card
The Target RedCard™ allows you to save 5% on your purchases at this retailer every day. It comes with a credit and a debit card option.
You can also apply for a Target Mastercard® and use the same activation process to begin using your account.
If you choose the RedCard debit card, then it must link to an existing checking account to process purchases. It typically takes 2-3 days to process each transaction, while you gain the option to take a cash withdrawal of up to $40 at the register.
The 5% discount applies to clearance items, specialty gift cards, and in-store Starbucks locations.
Activating the Target RedCard Online
You can activate the Target RedCard by going to the company’s Target RedCard activation website.
You must get logged in to manage your RedCard account before the activation process starts. If you have never used the online portal for this credit or debit card, then you must sign up with a new profile.
When you sign up for the Manage My RedCard dashboard, you can add cardholders and manage your PIN after completing the activation process. It also lets you set alerts, make payments, and enroll in paperless statements.
Target requires all new account holders to provide their credit card number, name, ZIP code, and Social Security number in the United States. Then the system will ask for the three-digit security code from the back of the card.
Once you create your Manage My RedCard account, you can send Target a secure message about the activation process if you have trouble with it.
How to Activate a Target Credit Card by Phone
If you don’t have access to the Internet or prefer to avoid the Manage My RedCard dashboard, then Target offers new account holders the option to activate their card by phone.
You can dial 1 (800) 424-6888 to speak with a customer care representative about the activation process.
If you receive a Target debit RedCard, then you will want to dial 1 (888) 729-7331. Anyone outside the United States can call (612) 815-9922.
The representative will need the same information to activate your new credit card as if you were signing up for the online portal.
Once you have your Target credit card activated, it becomes available for the rewards program and additional benefits. Although these are subject to change, customers can receive free two-day shipping with online purchases and exclusive extras with the RedCard.
