How to Activate Your New JCPenney Credit Card

If you received a JCPenney credit card, then you have the option to activate your account over the phone or online.

You are unable to use your new store credit card for purchases until you take the time to complete the activation process.

Once the credit card arrives in the mail, there is a sticker or label on the front that will provide you with the contact information needed to finalize your activation.

If you did not receive this information for any reason, then these are the steps you can follow to start using your JCPenney credit card right away.

Activate Your JCPenney Credit Card by Phone

If you prefer to activate your new JCPenney credit card over the phone, then you will need to contact the store’s customer service department. You can reach them at any time by calling 1 (800) 542-0800 if you do not have the number provided on the label.

Their customer service hours are from 7 am to midnight Monday through Friday. The weekend hours are 9 am to midnight. Both periods of availability are based on the Eastern time zone.

If you want to use your new JCPenney credit card before you receive it in the mail, you can still make purchases with a valid photo ID. Take your items to any customer service area, and the representative there will issue a temporary card for purchases made that day. This benefit begins 24 hours after your initial approval.

You can then use your credit card at all JCPenney retail locations, their website, or through Sephora.

How to Activate Your JCPenney Credit Card Online

Synchrony Bank issues the JCPenney credit card. You will need to create an account on the Synchrony Bank website to begin this process, so click on the Register button at the bottom of the screen.

Enter the account number that is on the back of your credit card. Then click the Next button.

You will then need to supply identifying information to verify that you are the intended cardholder for the JCPenney account. Your date of birth, Social Security number, and your mother’s maiden name are required items.

These data points must match what you supplied during the application process for this new card.
